Framework

Uncliché
Your Brand

A framework for brands that sound like everyone else. The problem isn't that you're generic. It's that you followed the right advice.

The actual problem

"Be professional." "Focus on benefits." "Keep it simple." "Maintain a consistent tone." All correct. Everyone follows them. When everyone optimizes for the same standards, the output looks the same — safe, competent, and impossible to remember. Uncliché Your Brand is a framework for reversing that.

What it is

Not a rebrand. Not a visual refresh. Not another messaging exercise.

It's a process of stripping away everything a brand accumulated while trying to sound acceptable, and finding what's actually there. Most brands have a real position buried underneath the polished language. The work is locating it, then having the nerve to lead with it.

The five principles

01

Intentional friction

A brand that offends nobody convinces nobody. If your message can be signed by any competitor in your space, it's not your message. The goal isn't to be provocative. It's to be specific enough that the wrong people self-select out.

02

Convictions over features

"We're client-focused" is a feature. "We think most agencies charge for the privilege of reformatting what you already know" is a conviction. One of these builds a brand. The other fills a deck.

03

Brutal specificity

"I help entrepreneurs grow" is smoke. "I work with B2B SaaS founders past €500k ARR who don't know where the next 30% comes from" is a brand. The more specific you are, the more relevant you become to the right buyer.

04

Voice before message

People don't remember what you said. They remember how it felt to read you. Voice is a bigger brand asset than any tagline.

05

Consistency without rigidity

Brand consistency doesn't mean sounding identical across every channel. It means people always know it's you, regardless of format. The character is fixed. The costume can change.

Before

"A digital marketing agency focused on sustainable growth and measurable ROI for ambitious businesses."

After

"We do marketing for companies that are tired of paying for pretty reports."

Same agency. One thing changed: they stopped being afraid.

How I use it

This is the framework behind the brand work I do through Aah, Monster! It started as a checklist for client audits. It became the lens for every positioning conversation I've had since.
